Education Policy Analyst

Full Time Position with Benefits

Salary Range: $65,750 to $74,516
The Education Policy Analyst is responsible for facilitating community development by analyzing, advising, and providing options for effective decision purposes for education programs and initiatives.
The Education Policy Analyst is also responsible for the development of strategies for political advocacy for the Anishinabek Nation in relation to early childhood, elementary, secondary, post-secondary, lifelong learning and special education issues as defined by the Director of Education, Anishinabek Chiefs Committee on Education and for working within policy parameters and administrative guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary Education- related Degree/Diploma/ Certificate;
- Minimum of three years’ experience working in an education position and/ or policy analyst role;
- Experience researching and preparing reports, briefings, etc.;
- Excellent working knowledge of federal and provincial education programs, and First Nations education legislation;
- Experience working with a First Nation organization;
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and relevant computer systems, program and software) and able to learn new technologies and tools; and;
- Have a valid Ontario Drivers license and be insurable under UOI policy and be able to travel for work-related events and meetings.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Exhibit professional attitudes and behavior;
- Good analytical and problem solving skills;
- Experience preparing briefing notes, reports, memorandums, and policies;
- Experience conducting information sessions and workshops;
- Ability to understand and speak Anishinaabemowin or willingness to learn; and
- Understanding of Anishinabek culture.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Providing strategic optional direction for education programs;
- Providing a variety of consultative services to benefit all 39 Anishinabek First Nations;
- Developing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting a policy analysis component to the Education Secretariat, which meets the mandate of the organization;
- Providing policy analysis and support to the Political Office;
- Coordinating various meetings that support policy development and providing technical expertise;
- Coordinating community outreach for the benefit of member First Nations;
- Acting as liaison with member First Nations and governmental agencies on policy issues;
- Ongoing monitoring and assessment of relevant government policy to provide recommendations to the Director of Education;
- Acting as liaison with member First Nations for projects where necessary;
- Conducting research, preparing background reports, technical summaries, briefing notes and other related documents;
- Communicating with member First Nations, Chiefs and Councils, and the public in a one-to-one setting;
- Working cooperatively with member First Nation leadership, employees, consultants, and governmental agencies; and
- Performing other duties as assigned.
