It’s safe to say that last night was one of the most iconic of Demi Moore’s storied life and career. Over 40 years since she got her first big break in Hollywood, the 62-year-old actress won her first Golden Globe award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture for her performance as Elizabeth Sparkle in The Substance. She gave a powerful, chill-inducing acceptance speech about what it meant to her—and radiated a megawatt glow as she did.
“I love working with Demi as a beauty muse because she knows herself so well; she knows what works on her, and she is such a collaborator when it comes to creating the look,” her makeup artist, Rokael Lizama, tells InStyle. “She really enjoys the process and gets excited and involved in every detail.”
To prep her skin, Rokael used a thick layer of Dior Capture Day Creme to plump and firm before perfecting her skin with Forever Skin Perfect Multi-Use Foundation Stick in an array of shades: #2.5N was her base color, while #4N was used to contour and #1N served as a concealer along her highlights and under-eyes.
“The inspiration for Demi’s look tonight was drawn from the fabric and color of her dress,” says Lizama. “We wanted to do a soft smoky eye and add some sparkle and metallic effect with the eyeshadows.” To craft the eye, he used Diorshow 5 Couleurs Eye Palette in #559 Poncho all over the lids and smudged into the lower lash lines to create a smoky effect; a touch of contrast was added to the inner eyes with glittery #539 Grand Bal. “To maximize the smoky eye effect, I used DiorShow Eye Mascara to really lengthen and accentuate her eyelashes and create extra drama on the eyes,” adds Lizama.
For the finishing touches, the pro swept Rouge Blush Colour & Glow in shade #257 Dioriviera on the cheeks and sculpted her lips with Rouge Dior Contour in shade #259 Nude Ribbon before adding a sheer wash of color and shine using the Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil in shade #061 Poppy Coral.
While Moore was shining as bright as ever, there’s no denying it’s her words, filled with raw honesty and wisdom about self-acceptance, that will stick with us for years to come. “In those moments when we don’t think we’re smart enough or pretty enough or skinny enough or successful enough or basically just not enough, I had a woman say to me, ‘Just know, you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick,’” said Moore in her speech. “And so today, I celebrate this as a marker of my wholeness and the love that is driving me and the gift of doing something I love—and being reminded that I do belong.”
