Video shared by the U.S. Coast Guard shows the U.S. Coast Guard rescuing two men off the coast of Puerto Rico after their boat ran out of fuel and capsized south of Desetho Island over the weekend.
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Two men were rescued off the coast of Puerto Rico over the weekend after the U.S. Coast Guard said their boat ran out of fuel and capsized.
Officials said Coast Guard San Juan spotters received an unregistered digital selective call alert around 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by a call alert alerting them to a vessel in distress about eight miles south of Dececheo Island. I received a call from a Samaritan.
A few hours later, a distress call was received from two men who reported that they had first activated a digital selective call alarm.

A Coast Guard auxiliary crew from Borinquen Air Base discovered the two men and their 24-foot fishing boat. A helicopter arrived at the scene around 5pm and found two men wearing life jackets.
The vessel capsized about five minutes later, hit by waves 6 to 8 feet deep and winds of 40 to 35 mph, Coast Guard officials said.
Both men were uninjured but were pulled from the rough seas and taken to Borinquen Air Base.
“Our crews worked together to conduct the rescue safely and efficiently, resulting in the best possible outcome,” said Lt. David Tirado Tolosa, Coast Guard Borinquen Air Station MH-60 aircraft commander. Ta. “Emergencies at sea can occur at any time.
The Coast Guard recommends that all mariners wear life jackets and carry marine radios for safety in case of emergencies at sea.
