The Boston Celtics sale process is moving as expected. The first round of bids is due on January 23. The team expects at least four, and possibly five, bids from prospective ownership groups. The NBA has already vetted all potential bidders.
One of those bids is a group led by current co-owner Steve Pagliuca. That group has been clear in their intent to take controlling interest of the team. The identities of the other bidders are unknown at this point.
The Grousbeck family is expecting the sale price to exceed $6 billion. The Grousbeck’s bought controlling interest of the Celtics in 2002. They announced their intention to sell the team this past summer, following the team winning a record 18th NBA championship.
