If you’re like me and couldn’t find the Birkenstock Boston Soft Footbed Clog in your preferred size and color a few seasons ago, it might have been for the best. In fact, the shearling-lined, fall-to-winter version of the brand’s popular clog turns out to be softer, cozier, and more comfortable than the Boston Soft Footbed clog. As soon as Birkenstock Boston Genuine Shearling-lined Clogs ($175) appeared in the New Arrivals section at Nordstrom, I jumped to buy them and have been wearing them nonstop.
What I like about Birkenstock shearling-lined clogs
They feel like fluffy slippers, but with the ergonomic design and comfortable, durable footbed Birkenstock Boston Clogs are known for. At first I was worried that the shearling lining would make my feet sweat, but unlike synthetic shearling, real shearling has natural temperature regulating properties. I wear them barefoot on warm days or when I want to put something on quickly, but on chilly days I can wear quarter socks and still look cool.
When our editor reviewed the shearling-free version, she expected it to be comfortable, but was surprised to find it just as versatile. I was thrilled to discover that the same goes for these shearling-lined mules with everything from leggings and sweats to barrel jeans and even jumpsuits. When it comes to convenience, I like that I can wear it hands-free. As a mother of two small children and a newborn puppy, I’m my go-to for 6 a.m. potty breaks when I’m half asleep and my hands are full with leashes, treats, and wriggling puppies.

At $175, they’re an investment and more expensive than Birkenstock’s Boston Soft Footbed Clogs, but the shearling is worth the upgrade. I chose a taupe color that has a beautiful blend of suede and shearling. I like the color because it’s not too light or too dark, but I was worried about dirt and water stains. Amazingly, no matter how much I’ve worn them, they still look almost new. The dirt had hardened, but I was able to easily remove it. I did get some unexpected splashes, but no raindrops stained the suede.
