Back in January of 2024, SKI, alongside our sister titles Outside, Backpacker, and Climbing, among others, launched a new monthly travel series highlighting the best adventure destinations on the planet—all chosen exclusively by our seasoned editors. These travel awards covered all types of destinations, from the white-sand beaches of the Caribbean to the powder-laden slopes of Europe, as well as activities including hiking, cycling, running, and of course, skiing.
The goal: To inspire, motivate, and guide you to your own incredible adventures throughout the year. Before we kick off another year of epic travel in 2025, let’s recap SKI’s favorite award-winning roundups that helped us make this past year one to remember.

5 Best Alps Ski Resorts for Families of All Ages
- Month: February
- Theme: Family
At the peak of the season last winter, SKI was tasked with unearthing a story about family skiing that we hadn’t told in a while. We landed on the concept of a family trip to the Alps, where, despite the distance, it’s possible to travel for less while taking in an entirely different experience and ski culture.
“An Alps ski trip isn’t just about hitting the slopes—it’s a chance to dive into ski history, experience new cultures, and spark a passion for global travel in your family. Handpicked by SKI editors, these five resorts have everything families need for an unforgettable skiing adventure, regardless of age or skill level.”
Four Road Trips Every Skier Must Take
- Month: April
- Theme: Road Trips
Spring skiing is synonymous with road trips, and there’s really no better time for a multi-resort excursion than in April, when the mild temps help you stay out longer as sun lingers into the early evening. But when it comes to hitting multiple resorts in the same trip, it’s a huge bonus when they’re on the same pass, which is why we crafted four pass-specific road trips complete with lodging, dining, and scenic pitstops along the way.
“There’s nothing quite like packing up the SUV, filling the rooftop box with your quiver of skis, placing your carefully curated cooler of road trip noshes in an easily accessible spot, and getting on the highway. It beats the one-and-done fly-to resort vacation by a mile when it comes to really getting to know a place and soaking in the unique culture of the towns and communities along the way.”

In this roundup, we focus on the best ski towns to move to for all different types of folks, from families with young children to seasoned retirees.
“Moving to the mountains is the Holy Grail for skiers, but it’s not easy. Price-gouging is real, second homes are clogging availability, and locals can have a hard time building community when resort season booms and busts change the demographics every few months. That said, according to your priorities, a ski-life balance can absolutely be achieved. Itching for post-work pow turns? A small town mountain oasis away from crowds? An every-sport hub? We did the research and rounded up some of the best ski towns to settle down for the long haul.”
