As the Bundesliga enters its winter break, Bulinews.com editor-in-chief Rune Gellov has selected his team for the season so far.
The teams lined up in an attacking 3-2-3-2 formation can be seen below.
goalkeeper
Peter Gulacsi (RB Leipzig)
After a first half of the season in which Leipzig were generally very solid at the back, the Hungarian shot-stopper kept the most clean sheets in the league (eight) and saved 72.5 per cent of the shots that came his way.
defender
Dayot Upamecano, Bayern Munich
Bayern’s style of play can look dangerous at times, but they have conceded just 13 goals in the league and Upamecano has been the key to their success. His speed, physicality, strength on the ball and ability to press from high positions make the Frenchman the perfect centre-back for the way Vincent Kompany wants Bayern to play.
Willi Orban, RB Leipzig
Leipzig’s defense was solid for the most part in the first half of the season, with captain Vili Orban playing a central role. A leader and a rock at the back, the Hungarian defender has scored four goals in the Bundesliga and is a big threat in front of goal.
Jonathan Tarr, Bayer Leverkusen
After being denied his clearly desired move to Bayern in the summer, Tarr showed what a true professional he is. As the leader of Leverkusen’s backline, the experienced center back plays a key role for the reigning champions. This season, he has demonstrated his strength in tackling and accuracy in passing, and has consistently played at a high level.
midfielder
Joshua Kimmich, Bayern Munich
Kimmich, another player essential to Kompany’s desire for Bayern to play, has been moved back to midfield, where he is pulling the strings. With one goal and four assists, he completes 93% of his passes and completes 2.3 key passes per game.
Granit Xhaka, Bayer Leverkusen
Xhaka has been an integral part of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen side since last season. With two goals and five assists to his name, the Swiss midfielder completes 92 percent of his passes, averaging 2.1 key passes per game.
Michael Olise, Bayern Munich
The French winger has scored five goals and provided seven assists in the Bundesliga so far this season, making an immediate impact at Bayern after joining from Crystal Palace in the summer. One of the best contract players this season.
Florian Wirtz, Bayer Leverkusen
Wirtz was instrumental in Leverkusen’s back-to-back winning seasons, but this season feels like another step forward. The youngster, who has seven goals and seven assists this season, has rarely had a bad game.
Jamal Musiala, Bayern Munich
The youngster has often stepped up when Bayern need it most and has become even more dangerous in front of goal, finding the back of the net nine times so far this season.
strikers
Omar Marmouche, Eintracht Frankfurt
With 13 goals and 7 assists in 15 Bundesliga appearances, Marmouche is one of the league’s most accomplished players and perhaps the most improved.
Harry Kane, Bayern Munich
Kane also played in 13 Bundesliga games, finding the back of the net 14 times, scoring three hat-tricks in the process.
Bench: Zentner (Mainz), Davies (Bayern Munich), Grimald (Leverkusen), Amiri (Mainz), Stage (Werder), Grifo (Freiburg), Burkhardt (Mainz), Kleindienst (Gladbach), Amoura (Wolfs) Burg).
