The trailer for Amy Schumer‘s new romantic comedy Kinda Pregnant has left fans sharply divided, sparking heated reactions since its release on Tuesday.
The Netflix clip introduces Schumer as Lainy, a Brooklyn-based English teacher who, feeling a twinge of jealousy over her best friend Kate’s (Jillian Bell) pregnancy, decides to fake a baby bump.
But things take an unexpected turn when she meets Josh (Will Forte), the man of her dreams, and her harmless fib spirals into a much bigger mess.
In the clip, Lainy awkwardly confesses, ‘Do you ever tell, like, such a big lie you don’t know how to get out of it?’ and later Josh exclaims, ‘You’re the least pregnant person I’ve ever dated.’
Despite the pairing of two of the biggest names in comedy today, the trailer has left fans polarized.
Some are already calling it a disaster, with one critic bluntly posting, ‘The fact that you normally put some of the funniest moments in a trailer tells me all I need to know about how bad this film will be.’

Another commenter wasn’t holding back either, asking, ‘Is this supposed to be funny or 100% cringe?’
Meanwhile, a particularly harsh review read, ‘Nobody asked for an Amy Schumer movie in 2025. We will NOT be watching it.’
However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom.
Some fans were cautiously optimistic, with one noting, ‘This role kind of seems like it’s in Amy’s wheelhouse. I’m not a big fan of hers, but I could end up watching this.’
Another chimed in with, ‘Early 2010s I really hated Amy Schumer, but Trainwreck was hilarious. Honestly, I’m inclined to give this a chance.’
With such a mixed reception, it looks like Kinda Pregnant has the makings of a comedy that might just split audiences right down the middle.
The project is directed by Tyler Spindel – who is known for working on other movies such as The Out-Laws (2023).
Amy is not only taking on a leading role in the film, but is also one of the producers – including Adam Sandler.

Shortly before getting into the full swing of filming, Amy notably broke her silence to address criticism over her ‘puffy and swollen’ face last month in February.
While celebrating the second season of her Hulu series, Life & Beth, she got candid about her appearance, revealing to fans and followers that she has been battling endometriosis and autoimmune disease.
After she stopped by The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon in February – a clip quickly went viral on social media with doctors asking the public, ‘What happened to Amy’s face?’
Schumer took to Instagram to respond to comments on her appearance and penned, ‘Thank you so much for everyone’s input about my face!’
‘I’ve enjoyed feedback and deliberation about my appearance as all women do for almost 20 years. And you’re right it is puffier than normal right now.’
She added, ‘I have endometriosis an autoimmune disease that every woman should read about. There are some medical and hormonal things going on in my world right now but I’m okay.’
‘Historically women’s bodies have barely been studied medically compared to men. The book “all in her head” does a good job explaining this. I also believe a woman doesn’t need any excuse for her physical appearance and owes no explanation.’
‘But I wanted to take the opportunity to advocate for self love and acceptance of the skin you’re in. Like every other women/person some days I feel confident and good as hell and others I want to put a bag over my head.’

‘But I feel strong and beautiful and so proud of this tv show I created. Wrote. Starred in and directed. Maybe just maybe we can focus on that for a little.’
The actress concluded with, ‘I had backup dancers on Fallon but my face is the headline hahaha anyway I hope you enjoy life and Beth. Love and solidarity. Amy.’
Shortly after, Amy further discussed the critical comments during an interview on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast also last month.
‘I think they’re mad that I’m not thinner, I think they’re mad I’m not prettier, and that I still feel like I have a right to speak,’ she stated.
‘I think that they don’t want any woman to speak – I mean, what woman has ever opened her mouth and not been torn to shreds?’
‘I could focus on that and it doesn’t feel good when the whole Internet’s mad at you. Don’t get me wrong – it does not feel good and I don’t wish that on anyone if they don’t deserve it.’
However, she then revealed that she has Cushing Syndrome and credited to the speculation about her face to understand ‘something was wrong.’
According to Mayo Clinic, it occurs ‘when the body has too much of the hormone cortisol for a long time.’

Some symptoms include ‘a fatty hump between the shoulders, a rounded face, and pink or purple stretch marks on the skin.’
The actress told her fans about the diagnosis in Jessica Yellin’s News Not Noise newsletter.
In regards to why she spoke out, Amy said, ‘The shaming and criticism of our ever-changing bodies is something I have dealt with and witnessed for a long time.’
‘I want so much for women to love themselves and be relentless when fighting for their own health in a system that usually doesn’t believe them…’
