Thousands of e-books are available for free in 2025 if you know when and where to look. Amazon offers free Kindle e-books to readers all year long, with new opportunities emerging every month. This month, Prime members can get two Kindle e-books for free in Amazon’s First Reads program in January.
What is Amazon’s First Read?
Amazon First Reads is a program for Prime members that gives Prime members early access to new e-books in a variety of genres, hand-picked by First Reads editors (one of the many benefits of Prime membership). Prime members can choose to download one free e-book from a rotating list each month (although that number may increase to two in some months). Non-members can obtain e-books at a discounted price. These e-books can be read on a compatible Kindle device or via the free Kindle app.
How to get free Amazon Kindle e-books in January
Go to the First Reads landing page to see the complete list of e-books available this month. When you find a book that sounds interesting, click the (Buy Now) button from the First Reads landing page. Be careful not to be redirected to the Kindle or Amazon mobile applications. Because you won’t see the free books option there. Instead, use your mobile phone or computer’s internet browser.
Be careful not to click on the “Pre-order for…” button. Click on it and you will be asked to pay. Instead, click the “Read for free” or “Buy now with 1-Click” button under the “First Reads” banner on the book’s Amazon page (don’t worry, we won’t charge you for it) ). This will send your e-book directly to the Kindle linked to your Amazon account.

You’ll know you did it right when you see the message “Thank you, (your name)!” An order summary showing the eBook being automatically delivered to Kindle Cloud Reader.
Free Amazon Kindle e-books will be available in January 2025
This month, you can choose 2 of 10 new Kindle e-books. Amazon lists the genre above each book title, giving you an easy way to narrow down your choices. Mouse over (See editor’s note) below the (Buy Now) button to read a short description from the First Reads editor who selected the book.
