Manchester United’s second-choice goalkeeper Altai Bajdir is reportedly set to remain at the club after his impressive performance against Arsenal on Sunday.
Bindir is finding it very difficult to get playing time after joining the club for £4.3 million in the summer of 2023.
Andre Onana is United’s undisputed number one, with Bindil’s appearances limited to a few Carabao Cup games and one FA Cup appearance last weekend.
However, the Turkish international became a hero for the Red Devils at the Emirates, defeating Arsenal on penalties and being expelled from the competition, progressing to the fourth round where they will face Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City.
Boundir faced criticism in December after he conceded a goal directly from Son Heung-min’s corner in the 88th minute during United’s 4-3 defeat to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
But just a month later, after the final whistle against the Gunners, Ruben Amorim dubbed him ‘our hero’ for his brave effort between the sticks.
The 26-year-old turned the tide of the match in United’s favor in the 72nd minute with a superb save from Martin Odegaard’s penalty from a corner kick. He also made a series of great stops, sending the game into overtime and ultimately into a penalty shootout.
Bindir again denied Kai Havertz, making him the only one of his nine spot-kicks to miss.
There was much speculation that Bindil would leave United during the ongoing winter transfer window to seek first-team minutes elsewhere.
It was even suggested that Amorim was not convinced by him and wanted someone new to come in to replace Onana.
However, it appears Bindil will remain at Old Trafford beyond this month.
The Daily Mail reported: “Vindil could have left United this month in search of more first-team football, but that now looks unlikely.”
“Altai Báindir is unlikely to leave United after his heroics against Arsenal.”
“He will be retained to give United’s No1 Andre Onana some competition.”
Meanwhile, United return to Premier League action when they host Southampton on Sunday.
