Manchester United were forced to play catch-up after mounting a late fightback against Old Trafford on Thursday and eventually ran out 3-1 winners at Southampton.
Amad Diallo’s 12-minute hat-trick kept Ruben Amorim from blushing and Saints made the hosts look decidedly average for much of the game.
While the team could thank Andre Onana for a number of great saves, the Red Devils were also guilty of denying two brilliant chances in each half.
Alejandro Garnacho had a chance to take the lead but almost missed the target, and the substitute’s shot from a low Argentine cross looked hard to miss.
Amorim praises Garnacho
Although the 20-year-old was unable to find the back of the net, Amorim praised the work ethic he has sought from the Argentina international outside of possession.
It is well known that a number of clubs, including Napoli, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, are interested in the academy graduate, and INEOS are willing to let him leave in pursuit of pure profit.
The former Atletico Madrid star does not appear to be a natural fit in Amorim’s system, the head coach said before Sunday’s game against Brighton, but the winger is showing the fight needed to adapt. admitted.
Although he will have to play as a No. 10 rather than a winger who thrives in transition moments, the head coach is happy with his desire and effort and hopes for more opportunities.
“It’s clear. He has talent and needs to learn to play in different positions. He needs to play better inside,” Amorim said.
“Garnacho improves a lot in the recovery position when he doesn’t have the ball. But when you do that, you may not be in the right place to make the transition like you have in the past. I like to build up and get to the final third.
“He’s finding the best way to play in this system. He’s improving in training. He started the last game. We’ll see tomorrow. He’s changed the way he looks at himself. I think so.”
Garnacho has no intention of leaving.
And despite numerous links and reports claiming that he could move if the outfit matches United’s asking price, the Manchester Evening News claims that Garnacho himself will soon join Old Trafford. He claimed he had no intention of leaving.
“Alejandro Garnacho is not actively pursuing a move from Manchester United despite growing uncertainty over his future. United have declined to comment on Garnacho’s future. It is open until February 3rd during the winter season.
The Argentine player was left out by Amorim in the Manchester derby, and his attitude was called into question, and he only made substitute appearances after that.
However, he has proved his worth with two assists in his last three games, and fans will be hoping he continues his form and regains his place as an untouchable member of the United squad. .
