Terry Shaw will retire from his role as president and CEO of AdventHealth in July, the Altamonte Springs, Florida-based health system said on Friday. He will remain on the health system’s board of directors.
The executive has held the post since 2016 and served the organization in a variety of roles for 40 years.
Shaw oversaw AdventHealth through a series of transitions, including the system’s rebrand from Adventist Health System in 2019, its split from a 27-year joint venture with CommonSpirit Health in 2023 and its exit from the skilled nursing facility business.
During his tenure, AdventHealth grew to include more than 50 hospitals. In its 2023 fiscal year, the health system generated $16.8 billion in operating revenue, representing a 41.2% increase over five years, according to Fitch Ratings.
“Leading this incredible organization has been the honor of my lifetime,” Shaw said in an internal statement Friday. “My decision to retire clears the path for the very capable next generation of AdventHealth leaders and I am fully confident in the ability of these leaders to continue our legacy of success.”
The health system said it will select an internal successor to replace Shaw in April.
