This book explores the changing nature of war through the lens of the Russo-Ukrainian war. The authors analyze the history of the conflict, the combat capabilities of each side, and the role of multi-domain operations. Fundamental changes in the nature of war suggest that the United States is at a strategic inflection point. The authors draw lessons from both the Ukrainians and the Russians and suggest improvements for the United States. Advances in drone technology, cyber warfare, and electromagnetic warfare introduce new technological vulnerabilities and possibilities. Additionally, the war highlighted the role of allies in deterrence and training and how the style of leadership within the military, especially the execution of mission command, can be a decisive factor. As the Russo-Ukrainian war has shown, modern conflicts affect a huge number of areas. Therefore, in the future it will be important to have sufficient human resources with different abilities. Finally, this war showed that history and justice are important aspects in starting wars and achieving peace. Therefore, creating a narrative and satisfying the stakeholders is necessary to establish a stable world order. The Russia-Ukraine war foreshadows the challenges the United States will face in future conflicts and highlights the keys to adapting to modern warfare.
