Final score: Hoffenheim 2-3 Tottenham
90+6 minutes: All done. Spurs won, even though it wasn’t convincing at all!
share
90+5 minutes: Akpoguma breaks through the defense and plays a long diagonal pass into touch. Spurs are almost there.
share
90+4 minutes: Spurs break, Kulusevski takes the ball to the corner flag but can’t keep it there for long. Hoffenheim got a goal kick with just under a minute left.
share
90+3 minutes: Chavez crosses for Archie Gray. He calls for a penalty for handball, but Gray’s arm could not have come any closer to the body and no penalty was awarded. There will be corners, be careful.
share
90+3 minutes: Spurs hang on. Kramaric’s cross did not reach his teammate, but Hoffenheim still had possession.
share
90+2 minutes: Spurs goal kick takes the ball out of play. As Austin takes his time, there are whistles and jeers.
share
90+1 minutes: Approximately 5 minutes of downtime will occur.
share
90 minutes: Polo steals the ball from Nsoki in front of the Hoffenheim area, but clearly feels the contact and steps back, missing out on a potentially delicious chance.
share
90 minutes: Spurs bring on Callum Orcesi for Maddison.

goal! Hoffenheim 2-3 Tottenham (Mokwa, 88 minutes)
Game resumes! A great cross from Kramaric on the right that fell on top of substitute David Mokwa and he headed home from the corner of the six yard box!

87 minutes: And back to Spurs keeping the ball.
share
86 min: Kulusevski in midfield does a great job getting past a few opponents, but is ruined by a terrible pass at the end and he has no chance of finding Lanksjaer.
share
84th minute: A goal and a substitution changed the shape of the game again. Spurs only possessed the ball for the final few minutes and didn’t show much ambition, but they didn’t let Hoffenheim get close.
share
81 minutes: Some changes for the home team. Bischoff and Hrozek, two of the more enterprising attacking players, will leave and be replaced by Arthur Chaves and Florian Micheler.
share
79 minutes: That’s it for Son’s night. Will Lanxia will take his place.

goal! Hoffenheim 1-3 Tottenham (Son, 77 minutes)
Nsoki’s formidable pass gave Kulusevski the ball inside the center circle, which passed quickly through Moore to Son, who darted into space and fired a low left-footed shot past Bauman and at the far post. Ta!

76 min: Given the number of injuries on both sides and the form of the teams, there was always a chance that it would end up being a battle between limited teams, and that’s what happened. It’s a bit of a mess right now, but it’s helping give Spurs a bit of a foothold again.
share
74 min: Just a chance for Spurs. Polo’s cross from the right somehow bounced back to Son, but he, like everyone else, was surprised by the development and couldn’t control it.
share
70 minutes: Tottenham were absolutely terrible after half-time. They simply had no idea how to convert possession in the defensive third into possession in the attacking third, so they just aimlessly passed the ball up and down the field, giving the ball away to their opponents.

goal! Hoffenheim 1-2 Tottenham (Stach, 68 minutes)
It was coming, and now it’s coming! Stacchi starts the break with a great pass from his own half to Kramaric and continues his run from there. Kramaric passed to Jurasek, whose low cross from the left found Statch six yards out. I’m not completely satisfied with the finish, but the ball spins with the back stick!

No penalty!
66 minutes: Austin is also shown a yellow card and that decision is overturned. It took me about 5 minutes to reverse that decision, but I ended up in the right place.
share
65 minutes: Austin gets his first finger on the ball. And he doesn’t foul Meerstedt at all. This would be an unusual fine.
share
64 minutes: In fact, he probably does! The referee is now called to the replay screen.
share
64 min: VAR did not overrule it!

Hoffenheim has a penalty!
62 minutes: A cross from the right side spills. Melstedt and Austin both pounced on it and the forward headed it over the bar before both collided. The referee gives a penalty, but has no idea who collided with whom. This seems like a very generous decision to me, but will probably be overturned by VAR.

Updated on 14.12 ET
60 minutes: Bischoff tries to chip Austin from the edge of the area, but the ball ends up falling a foot wide of the far post, leaving the keeper helpless. That would have been a beautiful goal.
share
60 minutes: Somehow nothing has fallen to Hoffenheim inside the Spurs penalty area, but the visiting team are enduring a bit of a tough situation at the moment.
share
58 minutes: Spurs make a rare move forward. It ends with Moore spotting Son sprinting into the penalty area unmarked and the referee pointing out that the reason Son is unmarked is because Nsoki is on the ground. He scored a free kick against South Korea.
share
56 minutes: Spurs make a change, with Mikey Moore replacing Richarlison after his return from injury, but Richarlison was not expected to play for more than an hour.
share
55 minutes: Create a chance this time! Kaderabek crosses in from the right, Kramaric is free and hits the back post with a header, looping his header across goal and into the top corner, but it hits the bar!
share
54 mins: Hoffenheim don’t really have a high-quality attack, but Tottenham’s attempts to break through this far in the first half have been completely pathetic, and they keep attacking.
share
51 min: Spurs couldn’t do anything in the first half. It would be quite embarrassing for the Croat to hear Kramaric’s penalty scream again.
share
50 minutes: Kramaric goes down for a penalty and stays there for a while after not getting it, but can’t do anything.
share
48 min: Hoffenheim started the first half on the front foot. They aren’t a very fast or dynamic team, but they have numbers up front and are causing trouble as a result.
share
46 minutes: Beep! Football is on again. “This is a great matchup for neutrals like me who like to put words together,” writes Peter Oh (readers, brace yourself for what’s to come). “Hoffenham or Tottenheim, Hoffentotten or Heimham, Tottenhoffen or Hamheim, I don’t care who wins.”
share
The players are back! There are no half-hearted changes based on appearance.

Halftime: Hoffenheim 0-2 Tottenham
45 + 2 minutes: This is pretty much the last kick of the first half. I’m not entirely convinced by Spurs, but in this situation they would take a two-goal lead and look grateful for that.
share
45+1 minutes: Immediately after stoppage time, Hoffenheim create their biggest chance of the first half. Pullback running to Becker in every space 15 yards out. He can choose his place, and the place he chooses is Dragushin’s shin!
share
45 min: Great save from Bauman! Spurs won a free kick on the left and crossed into the area, where Bergvall headed home. He didn’t take a clean header, but still needed a great diving stop to prevent the shot!
share
44 min: Tottenham’s best move in a while, kick-started by Kulusevski and Bregvall exchanging backheels in their own half to beat the press, and Richarlison’s pass aimed at Maddison hits the defender. It’s almost finished.
share
40 minutes: Frozek’s shot deflects to Meerstedt. Dragusin throws towards the ball with all his might, but his head barely touches it, and Meerstedt loses his balance and takes a quick shot, but Austin makes the save.
share
38 min: The home team are struggling a bit. Upon winning a corner kick, the corner was played short and passed straight into the arms of Austin. He found Kulusevski on the halfway line and fed the ball to him, which probably would have resulted in a goal had the Swede been faster.
