Fire Station: Artist in Residence hosts open studio and panel discussion with Moroccan artists
Doha, January 21 (QNA) – Fire Station: Artist in Residence will hold an open studio event tomorrow Wednesday, with a session titled “Minimalism: Thinking Beyond Aesthetics” and a presentation by Moroccan artist, We will feature a panel discussion with Safa El-Ass.
The event is in conjunction with the Years of Culture initiative, launched in 2012 to promote cultural exchange and shared experiences around the world. It is also part of the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture program.
This session explores minimalism, which emerged in the 1960s as a reaction to abstract art. This movement is characterized by an emphasis on simplicity, minimal use of elements, and removal of superfluous details. However, Eluas presents minimalism not just as an aesthetic style, but as a lens that engages broader social and philosophical ideas, offering a deep perspective on the relevance of minimalism in contemporary discourse.
Fire Chief: Artist-in-Residence Khalifa Al Obaidly said this event creates a valuable opportunity to dialogue and reshape perceptions about how art reflects and reimagines the world. said. He noted that open studios and panel discussions will enhance the fire department’s programming and allow viewers to connect with critical ideas through Eluas’ unique artistic approach. He also emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration between prominent international artists and the local arts community.
Safaa Eluas is an artist born in Tetouan and graduated from the National Museum of Fine Arts in Tetouan. A multidisciplinary artist, her work explores the contrasts between sensation, perception, and experimentation. (QNA)
