Sales of liquor will remain prohibited in Delhi on some days in February due to the Delhi Assembly elections. The Delhi government has ordered the closure of liquor shops and other establishments serving liquor in the city from February 3 to 5. All liquor shops will remain closed on February 8 following the 2025 Delhi election results. February 5th is polling day in Delhi.
A recent gazette notification issued by the Delhi Excise Board has declared the polling and counting days of the 70-member Delhi Assembly as ‘dry days’ for various excise licenses under the Excise Rules, 2010. Additionally, he said liquor stores and establishments that serve alcohol will not close during the dry season. “On dry days, liquor stores, hotels, restaurants, clubs and establishments that sell or serve alcoholic beverages shall not be permitted to sell or serve alcoholic beverages to anyone,” the notification said.
Additionally, it said non-exclusive clubs, star hotels, restaurants and other establishments (including establishments holding various categories of licenses for the possession and supply of alcoholic beverages) must also refrain from serving alcohol. The Delhi Assembly elections will be held on February 5th and counting of votes will take place on February 8th.
