Fiction
In February 2020, I was in Brisbane when a former rugby player, Rowan Baxter, set fire to his estranged wife, Hannah, blew up the car holding their three children, and stabbed himself. After these tragic events took place, it emerged that Baxter had subjected his wife to a campaign of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse over many years. The case shocked Australia and, being only a few miles away at the time, I recall the distress felt by everyone in the city.
I was reminded of that horrible day when I read Nesting, a scorching commentary on male toxicity and a powerful reminder that real courage lies in a woman finding the strength to stand up and say, “no more”.
