Taiwanese singer-songwriter Everydaze is not one to shy away from vulnerability.
Combining independent pop, rock, and R&B, Everydaze creates music that pairs playful melodies with introspective themes of self-doubt, inner conflict, and longing.
In a recent interview with Soundstrip, the rising artist shared that his sound reflects a deeply personal journey shaped by cultural identity, generational struggles, and the realities of breaking into the music industry.
“I think I feel a bit more low self-esteem,” he shared, adding that this vulnerability is something he views as a generational struggle.
Growing up in Taiwan, these emotions became a recurring motif in his music, serving as both a personal outlet and a universal connection point for listeners.
Everydaze added that expressing himself in English as a Taiwanese artist is another layer of difficulty—making it harder for him to break in an already populated music scene.
“The population that’s interested in a Taiwanese guy singing English isn’t that many,” he acknowledged.
“It’s pretty hard, but I’ll just try harder I guess,” he added.
This mix of determination and honesty is reflected in his craft.
His lyrics explore heavier themes, but his melodies remain bright and inviting—a deliberate choice to mirror life’s contradictions.
“The things I write about aren’t really optimistic, but my music sounds pretty fun,” he explained, encapsulating the bittersweet charm of his artistry.
Where it all began
According to him, the name “Everydaze” stems from Richard Linklater’s film “Dazed and Confused,” a title that resonated with his outlook on life.
“I learned the word ‘daze’ from that movie, and it resonated with me,” he said. “I always thought that growing up would be just like a snap of a finger, you can solve all the problems you will encounter… But that’s not how life works.”
This philosophy of navigating life’s uncertainties shaped his career.
After a brief stint as a studio assistant—an opportunity he humorously recalled ended when he locked himself out of the studio—Everydaze decided to focus on creating his own music.
In 2020, he debuted with Room 24-7, an EP that showcased his ability to weave introspective themes into accessible tracks.
He also began producing for both indie and mainstream Taiwanese artists, an experience he described as fulfilling.
“I think it’s pretty fun to absorb different approaches to language and deliver it into the music I’m trying to produce,” he said.
By 2021, Everydaze gained traction with singles like “Say Something” and released his first full-length album, Daze, just last year.
He also collaborated with established artists such as Vivian Hsu, Julia Wu, and Chih Siou, highlighting his versatility and growing influence in the Taiwanese music scene.
Diving into Daze
Everydaze’s debut English album Daze explores deeply personal questions and experiences.
The opening track, “Serious Addiction,” showcases his experiments with synths and the influence of DJO’s sound, while “Evil Gemini” stands out as his favorite.
“My favorite track is ‘Evil Gemini.’ It’s the only song I made a music video for,” he shared. The track explores the complexities of relationships and self-reflection. “I was asking myself, when I’m apologizing after an argument with my partner, am I really apologizing? Or do I have something else I want to say?”
Everydaze also acknowledged that his album tries to strike a balance between its dreamy, accessible sound, and introspective themes.
“It’s an easy-listening album,” he said.
“But when you listen to it the third or fourth time, you can understand that there’s a deeper meaning to all the songs. I’m pretty sure that even though it’s personal, everybody can sense a little bit of themselves in the songs I’m writing,” he added.
This relatability is a key part of Daze’s appeal, inviting listeners to reflect on their own “dazed moments”—those times of confusion and uncertainty that ultimately hold meaning.
Looking ahead
As Everydaze looks to the future, he’s set his sights on performing more live shows across Taiwan and Asia, with hopes of touring internationally.
“I want to do more live performances [this] year. Touring internationally would be amazing,” he shared.
Experimentation also lies at the heart of his upcoming projects.
Inspired by Clairo’s latest album and the sounds of the ’60s and ’70s, he also announced his plans to explore soft rock and soul influences in his songwriting and production.
“Everydaze is sort of like a reminder that if I can accept being dazed everyday, then I can have inner peace” he concluded, reflecting on the philosophy that has guided both his music and his life.
With his blend of playful melodies and heartfelt lyrics, Everydaze continues to capture life’s fragile yet beautiful moments, making him a promising voice in the independent pop music scene.
Currently, Everydaze has 39,600 listeners on Spotify and 1,240 followers on Youtube.
