The Ethereum Foundation is undergoing a major leadership restructuring process. This is as stated by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin in a statement on January 18 outlining the goals and explicit non-goals of the process.
“We are currently in the process of major changes to EF’s leadership structure, which have been going on for nearly a year. Some of them have already been implemented and published, and some of them are still underway.” he stated.
According to Buterin, the goal of the reorganization is to strengthen technical expertise within the foundation’s leadership while improving communication with ecosystem participants, including individual and institutional users, application developers, wallets, and layer 2 protocols. That’s it.
Buterin outlined several key goals, including hiring new talent, increasing execution speed, and providing more proactive support for application builders.
The foundation plans to strengthen its focus on privacy, open source development, and resistance to censorship at the application layer, the Ethereum co-founder said. It also plans to expand the use of decentralized privacy technology for payments and financial management on the Ethereum blockchain.
Buterin stressed that the restructuring will not turn the foundation into a lobbying organization to maintain Ethereum’s neutrality as a global platform, especially in major countries like the United States. He also clarified that the foundation will not serve any vested interests or increase centralization within the Ethereum ecosystem.
“These are not what EF does and this will not change. People who want a different vision are welcome to start their own organizations,” Buterin said.
Ethereum Foundation launches new X account
Buterin’s statement came after the Ethereum Foundation launched a new X (formerly Twitter) account @ethereumfndn on Monday. The move marked a resumption of social media engagement after a year of silence.
1. This new account will be used to share updates from the Ethereum Foundation, including:
– Latest information from the EF team
– News about EF projects and grants
– Disclosure on EF Treasury movements
— Ethereum Foundation (@ethereumfndn) January 13, 2025
The account is part of the Foundation’s strategy to increase transparency and communication following criticism of its activities and leadership.
The Aave team and other community members recently called for a change in leadership to improve efficiency and address funding issues.
How to solve Ethereum infrastructure problems
1) Fire 80% of non-developers and current leadership positions on the spot.
2) Convert your remaining ETH into a balanced basket of battle-tested LSTs
3) Reduce current subsidies by 95%, especially for the “Operate a Node on Vorkuta” initiative.
3) Instead of dumping…

Through the new account, the Ethereum Foundation aims to deepen its engagement with the community, focusing on the latest information related to the Foundation’s operations, grants, and financial disclosures.
In addition to X, the Foundation plans to work with decentralized social media platforms such as Farcaster, Lens, and Bluesky.
