A little more about Erling Haaland’s contract via PA Media.
According to Transfermarkt, Haaland’s contract means he has the longest current contract among players in Europe’s top five leagues.
Apart from the “lifetime” contracts offered to Real Madrid’s Raul Casillas and Iker Casillas and Barcelona star Andres Iniesta, the next longest contract in football history with a fixed end date is that of a Brazilian. It was a 10-year contract given to winger Denilson when he signed with Real Betis in 1998. The price was 21.5 million pounds, a world record at the time.
Contracts of 10 years or more are common in American sports, and last month Juan Soto signed a 15-year contract with the New York Mets.
It is reported that Haaland’s deal increases his basic salary to £500,000 a week and removes a release clause included in his original contract.

Jota doubts Liverpool’s move to Brentford
Diogo Jota, who made an instant impression with his equalizer against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, could miss Liverpool’s trip to Brentford on Saturday. The Portuguese striker showed once again that he remains the club’s most reliable finisher with his goal in the 1-1 draw at the City Ground, which will cause a roar across Anfield.
Liverpool manager Arne Slott said in a press conference today that Jota complained of some discomfort after the match and trained separately from the main squad on Thursday.
“There is no doubt about the fact that Jota is an important player for us. He did not take part in training yesterday so today we have to see where he is,” said the Dutchman. said. “We don’t know if he’ll be available tomorrow. We’ll have to wait and see, but he seemed a little unwell for the half hour he played and was able to finish the game, but… I was complaining a little bit about it after that.”
The Portugal frontman has been out for around eight weeks with a chest injury and has started just two games since October. Jota has a checkered injury history, missing 66 games over the past two-and-a-half seasons, but Slott said the striker was not receiving special treatment for it.
“Every player has an individual program, and like I said before, it’s 80 to 90 percent the same for all players. I have something I want to do.
“Of course we note that he (Jota) is making a personal effort to stay injury-free, but it’s not just about him. It’s the same with everything else. He has a special program, just as he has a special program.
The good news for Liverpool’s forwards is that Luis Dias, who missed Thursday’s training session due to illness, is expected to be fit.

Some readers’ reactions to Erling Haaland signing a huge new nine-and-a-half year contract with Manchester City. To be honest, the reactions have been mixed.
Graham Neil: “Frankly I don’t dispute his incredible scoring record, but to be honest he’s not fun to watch. It’s not the talent or the ability to wow you, it’s just the constant It’s an ability to hone your skills. Give me the fickle number 10 any time.”
Ed Freeman: “But he’s not going to stay until ’34, right?” I’ll give him another year and a half. However, this way the club will guarantee a good price if he goes to Madrid or Saudi Arabia. I think it’s good business. ”
Vivek Rajendra: “How should we read the announcement and details of this absurd deal? Does the city indicate it is confident of defeating the 115 charges? Or is it just going to pretend it’s business as usual?” So, are they somehow trying to remind themselves of a way out? Should this be read in conjunction with Kusanov and Marmouche’s trolley dash (?) with the possibility of a transfer ban?
