On the ground and in the air, DOD personnel from multiple units helped battle devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area this week, working closely with federal, state and local partners.
About 2,500 California, Nevada and Wyoming National Guardsmen were on duty by Tuesday, working with agencies across Southern California. Eight C-130 aircraft equipped with Modular Aerial Fire Fighting Systems, activated by U.S. Northern Command on Jan. 10, were operational.
The firefighting operations in California are coordinated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in concert with CAL FIRE and the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.
