Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim insists his team will rely on Amad Diallo again against Brighton on Sunday following his second-half heroics in a come-from-behind victory over Southampton.
Amad kept United on their toes as he scored a 12-minute hat-trick against bottom side Southampton at Old Trafford on Thursday.
Manuel Ugarte’s own goal in the first half put United in serious danger of losing their fourth consecutive home game for the first time in over 80 years, but Amad was fortunate to save the day.
In the post-match press conference, Amorim was asked if he spoke to Amad after his heroic act. United’s head coach replied: “I haven’t said anything.”
“I’ll tell him tomorrow he needs to rest, eat something good and be ready for Sunday. We need him again.”
“He did a great job. It’s a great moment for a young kid to score a hat-trick for a club like this, but he needs to focus on the next game – this is already in the past – and We need to prepare for the next match.”
“The important thing is to win. He helped us. He’s had a very good season, that’s all. We’ve already talked about this.
“We have to be careful with the young kids. He did a really good job today. He has a lot to improve on. So congratulations to him and the whole team, I hope you enjoy yourself tonight, And he needs to appreciate this moment, but tomorrow he will recover and be ready for the next game.”
Commenting on the team’s performance, Amorim said: I have to believe, but I feel like that because Anthony could miss out… Let’s go again. ”
“It was a tough night with the fans, but everything is very fresh. We lost three times (at home to Newcastle, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest) but we managed to turn things around. In the end So far, we didn’t play well, but if you look for all the chances, I think we deserved the win, but we need to improve a lot.”
Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was at Old Trafford, but for most of the night he would not have enjoyed what he saw.
“I talked to him for five minutes about various things about the match. It wasn’t a good match, but in the end the result was a conversation starter.”
“Today it was more important to win. We know that the fans want to see better football than this. We want to see better football than this, but we need time. We need time. We needed to win the game and we did that today.”
United currently sit 12th in the top flight with 26 points.
