Comparing certain things to Groundhog Day, the 1993 film in which Bill Murray is doomed to relive the same span of time over and again, is the laziest of journalistic cliches. Nothing else, though, captures the sheer jaw-numbing frustration that comes sometimes from watching prime time terrestrial TV.
What, for example, are we meant to glean from watching the 17th season of Dancing on Ice (Virgin Media One, Sunday, 6.30pm) that we didn’t get from the first 16? The knowledge that Winterwatch’s Michaela Strachan is nifty on her pins?
