The injury to Nigeria representative Josh Maja has dealt a big blow to English Premier League hopefuls West Bromwich Albin.
The English-born striker, whose full name is Joshua Elowoli Orisunmihale Oluwaseun Maja, will be sidelined for “a number of weeks” with the injury.
This is a huge blow for West Brom as Maya is the team’s top scorer in this season’s English Championship with 12 goals in 25 games.
The Baggies have released the following statement suggesting the former Fulham player will undergo surgery in the coming days.
“Josh Maja will be out for several weeks with a lower leg injury,” the statement read.
“The 26-year-old striker will undergo surgery in the coming days before starting a rehabilitation period.
“Albion hope to have Maya back in competition during the spring. Everyone at the club wishes Josh a speedy recovery.”
Maya has one cap for Nigeria, making his international debut in a 2-2 friendly against Ukraine in September 2019, replacing Victor Osimhen in stoppage time.
