“I congratulate Nicolás Maduro on his third term as president and wish him every success,” Pezeshkian wrote on his social network X.
According to a government information website, the document also mentions the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support for the legitimate government of Venezuela and says it is ready to strengthen bilateral relations.
We believe that foreign interference and attempts to intimidate and sanction Venezuela are cruel and doomed to failure, the message added.
Maduro was sworn in for a third six-year term as president on Friday, nearly six months after winning the election.
Maduro, who has been president since 2013, was declared the winner of July’s election by both electoral authorities and the Supreme Court, but some of his supporters, including opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez and the United States, claimed the vote was fraudulent, and it sparked violent opposition-led protests in several Venezuelan cities.
At the inauguration ceremony, President Maduro promised that the new president’s term would be a “period of peace.”
