1,105 poems submitted to the 7th Katara Prize for Prophetic Poets
Doha, January 12 (QNA) – Katara Cultural Village Foundation announced that it has won a total of 1,105 poems to participate in the 7th Katara Prize for Prophetic Poet.
There were 861 submissions, an increase of 22 percent from the previous edition, of which 1,015 were submitted by men and 90 by women. 982 classical poems were submitted, of which 897 were submitted by men and 85 by women. A total of 123 poems were submitted to the Nabati poetry category, 118 by men and 5 by women.
Egypt, Sudan and Somalia had the most applications with a total of 347 applications, followed by the Levant and Iraq with 255, the Maghreb countries with 247 and the Gulf countries in fourth place with 224 applications. On the other hand, 32 applications were from non-member countries. -Arab countries.
Gulf countries also recorded the highest participation with 90 entries in the Nabati poetry category and 134 entries in classical poetry.
The award goes through several stages to narrow down a shortlist of 30 contestants, 15 each in classical and Nabati poetry, who will compete in three rounds before a final panel of judges. The final judging committee will accordingly select 5 people from each category to advance to the semi-finals and the contest will end. Three winners will be selected from each category. (QNA)
