Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf? According to Eva Dou’s rigorous, clear-eyed and often disturbing profile of the Chinese tech giant Huawei, perhaps we all should be. Ren Zhengfei, the publicity-shy entrepreneur who founded Huawei in 1987 and remains its chief executive, has often encouraged his staff to model themselves on these bloodthirsty animals.
“Wolves are really powerful,” runs a typical line from one of his motivational speeches. “They have a keen sense of smell, they are very aggressive and they don’t attack alone but in packs… when wolves want to eat sheep, they will always find a way to be in the right.”
