Manchester United have received a major boost in their bid to sign Victor Gokeres after reaching a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ over his transfer from Sporting.
Gökeres has been in great form since joining the Portuguese team from Coventry in the summer of 2023, scoring an astonishing 74 goals in 79 appearances and helping Sporting win the league title last season and top the table this season. Contributed.
Most of those goals came under manager Ruben Amorim before his move to Manchester United in November, with reports claiming the Red Devils’ new head coach is keen to bring Gokeres to Old Trafford as soon as possible. He is said to be very enthusiastic about coming.
United are currently on a buy-to-buy policy and Marcus Rashford is likely to leave the loan-only club, but they are not, so a transfer may have to wait until the summer (for Amorim It’s very unfortunate). In addition, there are too many transferable assets. Proof of this is the revocation of Koby Mainu’s “untouchable” status.
Sporting are also unlikely to allow Joekeles to leave midway through the season, especially after Amorim promised in January that he would not be poached by United.
However, according to Portugal’s Record newspaper, the Red Devils won’t have to shell out as much money for Gokeres if the two sides proceed with contract negotiations.
“Sporting have a gentleman’s agreement in place which allows the striker to leave the club for a minimum of £58.6m to £62.8m,” it claims.
Similar agreements have been hinted at in the past, but it was unclear how far the club would be allowed to move under the £83m release clause.
However, United face competition for Gokeres after reports of a ‘hijacking’ by Bayern, while Barcelona are also said to be keeping an eye on the 26-year-old.

If he moves to Old Trafford, he will be competing with Rasmus Hjøjlund for a place in the first eleven, but former United defender Paul Parker says he knows which player he thinks will win that battle. think.
Hoylund has scored just 23 goals in 66 appearances for United since his £64m move from Atalanta, and Parker has no doubts about whether the criticism of his performances is justified. do not have.
He told bettingexpert.com: “I definitely think[the media criticism]is 100% justified. He hasn’t done well enough and he’s not the player United need. I fall down a lot, so that’s what people are talking about.”
“The fans have been patient with him, but the media hasn’t. It doesn’t seem like he’s growing enough or listening to Amorim.”
“He only gets one run, but it’s always the same. He doesn’t finish the job properly. I saw him play against Alisson too, and he didn’t even try. It was very poor.”
“I liked him when he came, but for me it went in the wrong direction, completely. For now, he’s really not going to be the striker we need and can rely on.
“Hoylund lacks the presence that someone like Nunez has. But Nunez is dangerous for good reason. His mistakes can cost the game, but for some reason the media doesn’t talk about them. I don’t mention it at all.”
