Man United are stepping up their search for a new striker and are “hoping to sign” Newcastle star Alexander Isak, according to the club’s former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who spent more than a decade at Old Trafford during the club’s most successful period and still maintains strong links with the club, exclusively told Football Insider that United are currently in no position to pursue such a deal. He said he recognizes the financial strength and financial strength needed to conclude the deal.
Brown told Football Insider on January 7 that Ruben Amorim is preparing to add another striker to the squad following the struggles of Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
Isak has been heavily linked with a move away from Newcastle, as Newcastle continue to be in financial trouble and may have to raise funds through player sales.
Brown also told Football Insider in December that the Magpies could be forced to sell Isak as a result of St James’ Park’s difficult financial situation.
The likes of Arsenal and Chelsea have expressed interest, with United also praising him, but their interest is thought to be little more than an appreciation of his qualities.

Manchester United’s Alexander Isak sacked by Old Trafford officials
Isak is widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s best forwards, having scored 34 goals in 48 league games since the start of the 2023-24 season.
Brown, who has extensive experience in top-level recruitment and has also worked at West Ham, Tottenham and Aston Villa, is claimed to be the ideal person for United, but any offer of a contract would be far-fetched. .
“Man United want to sign Isak,” he told Football Insider.
“He would be a valuable asset to any club in the country.
“Thinking about what they look for in a striker, he brings all the tools to the table. He has speed, he can get out behind, he holds the ball, he plays on the floor, in the air, one-on-one. He scores goals in every situation.
“But I don’t think that’s possible for a variety of reasons and I don’t think there’s any deeper interest than recognizing him as one of the top strikers in the country.
“They don’t have the financial ability to make that deal happen and I doubt whether they can get him to leave Newcastle.
“Especially if Newcastle qualify for European football, it is thought that the likes of Arsenal would be interested, so they would also move ahead of United.”
