DETROIT — Ford Motor Co. on Thursday unveiled a $325,000 Mustang GTD special edition called the “Spirit of America,” paying homage to the historic jet-powered vehicle that bears the same name.
The white vehicle has a red and blue stripe down the center that Spirit of America driver Craig Breedlove wore when he broke the 500 and 600 mph barriers in the 1960s. Matching overalls.
Ford unveiled the car at the Detroit Auto Show, but declined to reveal the special edition’s price based on the automaker’s current GTD.

The Mustang GTD is powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine that produces 815 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful production Mustang ever. The car’s top speed is 202 miles per hour.
The GTD is part of Ford’s plan to expand the Mustang nameplate into the upper echelons of the sports car and racing worlds.
Ford said it received more than 7,500 applications for the 2025 and 2026 Mustang GTD during last year’s application period.
