Performances are heartfelt, funny and winning but this solid drama needs to leave more to the imagination
This is a neat slice-of-life drama that digs deep into the preordained roles that women play in families, often against their best interests.
Playwright Michael J Harnett creates two sets of sisters. Angela (Geraldine Plunkett) and Betty (Deirdre Monaghan) are well-to-do Protestant ladies who never married. Angela travelled the world with a fashion career, leaving Betty to care for their ailing parents as the family fortune ebbed away. They meet up in Bewley’s Café, fall easily into sisterly bickering, until one of them confesses she has a serious health condition.
