West Ham have sacked head coach Julen Lopetegui.
“The first half of the 2024/25 season did not align with the club’s objectives and the club has taken action in line with its objectives,” the club said in a statement.
West Ham added: “The process to appoint a replacement is underway.”
Graham Potter is set to replace the 58-year-old after West Ham held further positive talks with the former Chelsea and Brighton manager on Tuesday.
Lopetegui was appointed at the London Stadium in May, replacing David Moyes, whose contract expires at the end of the 2023/24 season.
West Ham lost 4-1 to Manchester City on Saturday.
Despite spending more than £130m on summer transfers, Lopetegui has only won six of the 20 games he has managed in the Premier League and the Hammers currently sit 14th in the table.
Lopetegui came close to being sacked after a 3-1 defeat at Leicester in December, with the club’s board split 60-40 over whether to sack him.
Their next game was a 2-1 win against Wolves, but they only won once in their next five games, with West Ham losing 4-1 to Manchester City in their last game, ending their tenure. Finished.
West Ham’s full statement
After confirming Lopetegui’s departure, the club issued an official statement: “West Ham United can confirm that head coach Julen Lopetegui has left the club today.
“The first half of the 2024/25 season was not consistent with the club’s objectives and the club therefore acted in line with its objectives.

“The board would like to thank Juren and his staff for their hard work during their time with the Hammers and wish them every success in the future.
“The process to appoint a replacement is ongoing. The club will not be making any further comment at this time.”
Potter is ready for acquisition.
Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports News:
“Graham Potter will be taking over shortly. He will be the new West Ham manager on a two-and-a-half year contract.”
“West Ham are in talks with the former Chelsea and Brighton manager and he could be in charge of the next FA Cup game against Aston Villa.”
Sky Sports’ senior correspondent Rob Dorsett is reported to be keen on Graham Potter if both West Ham and Everton decide to make a managerial change, and why Graham Potter is currently wanted. Explain.
Transfer business may be delayed due to Lopetegui’s dismissal
Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports News:
“I expect him (Potter) to be appointed within the next few days.

“Then they will discuss with Potter which new players they would like to have. “Almost every club in the Premier League has a sporting director and a technical director.
“One is to deal with the management situation, which could be a sporting director in charge of football policy.
“I understand that West Ham are quite active after spending £100m in the summer. They are looking at the situation outside and have an interest in Keenan Dewsbury Hall. Transfer business will not be put on hold, but it may be delayed.”
Carragher: “I predicted Lopetegui’s sacking a few weeks ago”
Sky Sports’ Jamie Carragher said on Monday Night Football:
“They played very well offensively (against Manchester City), but West Ham let us down defensively many times.
Jamie Carragher says Graham Potter’s move to West Ham would be a good move for both sides as pressure continues to mount on current Hammers manager Julen Lopetegui.
“When they lose, they always lose badly. They’re a mess at the back. There’s no question that the manager’s position is unstable, but with that scoreline at the weekend, it’s the sixth time this season in the Premier League.” They lost 5-1 to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
“When a team loses badly, I always think there’s something wrong in the locker room. This is how you lose. I expected this to happen three or four weeks ago.”
