Bournemouth striker Enes Unal has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during training, the club have announced.
Unal, 27, joined Cherries from Getafe last summer on a permanent four-year contract and joined on loan in the January transfer window.
The Turkish international, who has played in 17 games this season and scored two goals, suffered the injury during a regular training session on Tuesday.
Unal joined Bournemouth’s record signing Evanilsson on the sideline as the Brazilian striker underwent surgery on a broken foot.
“First and foremost, we consider that Enes will undergo a further significant period of rehabilitation at this time,” the club said in a statement.
“He is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair the ligament in the coming days and the club’s medical and performance staff will support him in every way possible.”
This is the second time that Unal has faced long-term absence due to a serious injury, as he also tore his anterior cruciate ligament during his time with Spain’s Getafe and missed the first half of the 2023-24 La Liga season.
The absence of Unal and Evanilsson will be a blow to Bournemouth’s European ambitions this season.
They won 1-0 against Everton last weekend, setting a club record of eight games unbeaten in the Premier League.
The Cherries are in seventh place, three points off the top four.
Late on Wednesday it was announced that Hornets striker Daniel Jevison, who failed to find the back of the net in 13 appearances in the Championship, had been recalled from his loan spell at Watford.
Jevison, 21, joined Bournemouth from Sheffield United last summer and featured as a substitute in the club’s first two Premier League games before making a brief move to Watford.
