Manchester United were given bad news in the January transfer window after Alphonso Davies came close to signing a new contract with Bayern Munich, according to Christian Falk.

Mr Falk, a journalist, wrote on his personal X account:
“Our story: Bad news for Manchester United, FC Liverpool and Real Madrid: Alphonso Davies (24)’s agent is in Munich to discuss contract extension.Davies will be available in the summer He will become a free agent. The FC Bayern leadership team is confident that Davies will sign a new contract.”
Davis was previously described as a “dream” signing for INEOS as they look to strengthen their squad in 2025, with major concerns over the fitness of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malasia in recent years.
Davies was open to a move to the Premier League with the 20-time English champions, but he is demanding at least £10 million in signing fees and his salary is said to be astronomical. That was always going to be a stumbling block in any deal, but it now looks like he intends to remain in the Bundesliga.
Real Madrid and Liverpool have also expressed interest, while Man United are now said to be eyeing Paris Saint-Germain’s 22-year-old defender Nuno Mendes, who previously worked with Amorim at Sporting CP.
