Manchester United are reportedly keen to sign Lecce defender Patrick Dorg, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
After three successive defeats against AFC Bournemouth, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United, it looked like the Red Devils would be completely defeated by Liverpool at Anfield, but United’s form in recent years has been very poor.
However, Ruben Amorim’s team put in a promising performance and ended up drawing 2-2. After the match, the Portugal national team coach said he was disappointed as to why his team could not play like this in every match.
This has been the story of United over the last few years, as they have tended to perform well when they are eliminated, but poorly when they are favorites to win.
Amorim therefore needs to find a way to make Man United more consistent and is likely to be looking to the market to find a solution in the January period this year.
Dorg joins Man United
Writing in X, Romano said United are considering options to strengthen their left wing-back position, with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkes and Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes among their priority targets.
However, both are expensive, so Amorim is also considering cheaper names and is currently interested in Dorgu. They had recently been monitoring the 20-year-old before carrying out the raid.
The journalist claims that Manchester United are not the only ones interested in the Danish player, with Napoli also keen on signing him.
Romano wrote:
“Manchester United continue to focus on LWBs as they have also added Danish international Patrick Dorg to their list. Milos Kerkes and Nuno Mendes are higher on the list but are more expensive. Dorg was being monitored by MUFC scouts and Napoli are also interested in him.
United are struggling defensively on the left side due to injury problems with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malasia. The Englishman returned after a long injury absence but has picked up a new injury, while Malasia has not been able to perform at his best since his return due to issues.
Signing a new left wing-back is therefore the right decision, and signing Dorg could be a smart signing for the long-term future.
