Meghan Markle has revealed that her “sweet” rescue dog Guy has died, with the former actress paying tribute with a post on her new Instagram account.
The heartbreaking tribute featured sweet clips and pictures of the beloved dog, with rare appearances of Meghan’s two children in the video.
Alongside the video, Meghan wrote: “In 2015, I adopted a beagle from a dog rescue in Canada. He had been at a kill shelter in Kentucky and given a few days to live. I swooped him up….and fell in love. They referred to him as ‘the little guy’ because he was so small and frail, so I named him ‘Guy’. And he was the best guy any girl could have asked for.”
Stating that Guy has been with her through “everything”, Meghan shared that fans may remember him from her previous days on Instagram.
Speaking of her new series, which is set to air next week, Meghan added: “Because many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you’ll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you may fall a little bit in love too.
“I have cried too many tears to count – the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too.”
At the end of her tribute, Meghan thanked Guy for his “unconditional love”, whilst adding that he had “filled my life in ways you’ll never know”.
Taking to X, fans – many who sent their condolences to Meghan – also all pointed out how much Guy had witnessed by her side.
One fan wrote: “Guy was with Meghan for everything. He was beside [Prince] Harry when he proposed to Meghan [cry-face emoji].”
Another wrote: “Guy was Meghan’s baby.”
A third commented: “Guy was with Meghan through everything: from Suits to becoming a literal princess and entering motherhood [cry-face emoji] RIP Guy you were so loved.”
A fourth pointed out how long Guy had been with Meghan, commenting, “Guy was with Meghan since 2015. Almost 10 years [sad-face emoji].”
