Fresh off a successful year with the release of his critically acclaimed album Chromacopia in late October, Tyler, The Creator has now earned further praise from proto-punk veteran Iggy Pop.

Pop, 77, took time out on BBC Radio 6 Music’s Iggy Confidential radio show to praise Tyler. In a raspy voice, Pop recalled the time he and A$AP Rocky previously worked together on a Gucci ad campaign.
“I’ve always liked Tyler,” Pop began. “I worked with him for a day once and he did whatever it took to get noticed. He was a true all-around talent, singing, dancing, writing as well. A true old school talent with a new style approach.”
Their last collaboration came in February 2020, when Gucci teamed up with A$AP Rocky to promote a menswear collection that served as an ode to the quintessential rock star.
“Men’s elegance can be unpredictable and strange,” Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele told Forbes about the idea for the campaign. “The result was a group campaign with three men, and I think they had fun, too.
“There’s always this image of eccentricity, because in fact they are eccentric themselves,” he continued. “It also depicts a certain kind of fun, and the idea of how an obsession with appearance can create a kind of commonality that can become a kind of brotherly love. It was beautiful to see these three guys together who looked so similar.”
Pop’s description of Tyler as “a true traditional talent with a new school approach” seems apt, as the young musician has recently achieved his biggest success to date with soul, jazz and hip releases. I am. Chromacopia hop blend.
Tyler’s eighth album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart with the opening song “St. Chroma.”
Top performing songs to date on Streaming Songs, which began in 2013, are “Earfquake” and “Wusyaname” (the latter featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Ty Dolla $ign), both of which peaked at No. 3 in 2019. was recorded. Each will be in 2021. Notably, this latest success was accompanied by the No. 2 single “Noid”.
