President Pezeshkian chaired the Supreme Housing Council on Monday, his first term since taking office at the end of July.
According to its official website, the administration said it was determined to resolve the housing issue after receiving reports from various agencies about issues hampering housing projects.
“Today, we must harness all governmental and non-governmental capabilities to solve the remaining housing problems facing our people. The government’s determination to tackle this issue is critical and urges all institutions to cooperate with each other to find practical solutions and present final results in the shortest possible time,” Pezeshkian added.
As part of his efforts to address housing issues, the President has tasked the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development and the Ministry of the Interior to form a joint task force to leverage the capabilities of all state governors to renovate the country’s blighted urban areas. Referring to building regulations, Pezeshkian said some regulations pose obstacles to housing construction and need to be reviewed by local governments in cooperation with relevant agencies.
The President noted that some of the problems in the housing sector need to be resolved taking into account the unique circumstances of each state.
Therefore, the President added that the sub-committee should hold its own meetings in the presence of the Governor-General in order to accurately address the issues in each state.
