A 21-year-old man from Shurugwi appeared before the Shurugwi Magistrates’ Court facing kidnapping and indecent assault charges, for which he was convicted, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is reporting.
It is the state’s case that on the 24th of December 2024, the complainant (3) and other children were playing when the offender took the complainant away from other children.
He detained her for about 30 minutes without her parents’s knowledge. When the complainant’s father was informed of the egregious act, he made a follow-up. That led him to finding his daughter naked, wearing the offender’s necklace. The offender ran away, leaving his mobile phone behind.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the offender’s arrest.
He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to an effective 4 years in prison.
